Correct...but useless on a snapshot system.

Not relevant for -stable.  -stable doesn't change any of that stuff.

No, you are trying to build -stable DOWN from an old copy of current. 
Doesn't work.

If you want to end up with -stable, you need to build from -release or
an older -stable...NOT a snapshot.
