I have OpenBSD 3.1 running fine under VMWare 3.1.
The best settings I found were to use *cough* FreeBSD *cough* as the guest
OS. I did run into similar trouble when trying to manually configure FDISK
partitions, rather than letting the installer use the whole disk -
especially if I tried to start the partitions before the 63rd sector. Also,
make sure that if you are reinstalling, you delete the old virtual disk
image and allow it to start fresh. The "Using Drive: 0 Partition: 3" error
would not go away until I used a clean vdisk.

good luck
