I didn't say I believed it; just reported the output from ./configure.

I actually did this, and managed to miss the part on asm. Mea culpa.

1) it was not a complaint, merely a query as to whether or not anybody else
had seen this. If you think otherwise, please read the initial post again.
2) I missed an option in ./configure. Mea culpa. It really doesn't follow
that I'm not capable of handling software compilation. I prefer to use
packages, or the ports tree, when I can. In this case, the current version
isn't there yet, which is what started this whole thing.
3) This particular bug reminded me very much of similar things I've seen
before, most of which were OBSD-specific, which is why I asked here. You'll
note that I _did_ STFW and the archives before posting. Apparently I should
have used that time to read ./configure --help output again.
You could merely have said "check configure options" rather than wasted
bandwidth on a personal attack based on flawed assumptions. But it probably
wouldn't have been as satisfying.
