User Password expire

Hello.

Could someone please tell me what format the 'usermod' expire command
accepts?  The man page states something about 'standard time format (%c)',
but I have not been able to find a definition of this.  I have tried MMDDYY,
DDMMYY, DDMMYYYY, DD-MM-YYYY, etc, etc, etc in every combination I can think
of, and I have tried a number of days since the Epoch.  The command always
tells me that I've used an invalid format.  So does anyone know what format
this command accepts?  If this info is in the FAQ somewhere I have not seen
it.
