Hello,
Recently my OpenBSD 3.1 -stable firewall stopped getting an IP address via dhcp
from my cablem modem ISP. I've read through various forums and OpenBSD Misc
Archives and have found many other people that have had the same problem. Most
of the other people having this problem were @Home users and it seems the fix
was to add the "send 'host-name'" option in the dhclient.conf file. My ISP
doesn't seem to require this, I've used several MS boxes and a Linksys router
to make sure I could get an address at all, they all worked fine provided I use
the NIC that my ISP has registered to me ( they do the MAC address tracking
deal ) and I didn't give any of them a special host name. Everything used to
work on the OpenBSD box just fine and one day it just quit working. I didn't
make any changes before this started happening so I'm assuming my ISP has made
some change. Unfortunately my ISP frowns heavily on people running any "server"
OS's without subscribing to their business class service, so asking them for
help is out of the question.
Anyone have any suggestions besided the @Home fix? I apologize if I haven't
included enough information.
Thank you very much,
Curtis
