Odd problems with Linksys interfaces
I've gone ahead and searched through the MARC misc@ archives and didn't see
anything that applied, so I figured it was fair game to ask:
I have two systems, an OpenBSD 3.0 box with two Linksys Etherfast 10/100 LAN
cards, both version 5 firmware. On my other system, a Windows XP box, I
have a Linksys Etherface 10/100 NIC, version 4 firmware. The NICs are
connected via a crossover cable, media 100BaseTX mediaopt full-duplex, and
when I had these systems set up at home a few weeks ago, talked at speeds
appropriate to a 100 megabit LAN.
When I moved back on campus, one NIC from the OpenBSD machine links to the
campus network at 10 megabit, half-duplex, and the other NIC remains pointed
back inside at 100 megabit full-duplex. My OpenBSD machine can talk to the
outside world at 10megabit speeds, my WinXP box can talk to the outside
world at 10megabit speeds, but if I try to send files from one machine to
the other, I average about 3 or 4 kb/sec and the machine almost locks up
until the file is done transferring. I'm at a loss to explain it. I'd
appreciate any advice.
Thanks,
Joe Barrett
