Try adding debug stuff to rc. Maybe echo $? to a log file after every
program start. Also, upgrade to 3.1 -- the problem might have been
fixed. Just watching the machine boot up will probably help the most --
maybe script(1) the install.

Speaking of upgrading... how -stable is it? Did you patch for the SSH
comprimise? This might be the source of the problems :)
