Re: Donations after new releases.



In all seriousness, this would probably be a good idea. I think people would 
respond better to "we only need $1,000 more to hit our goal of <$amount>" 
than "please donate, we really need the money". I'm not saying that people 
shouldn't encourage donations, of course -- but generally speaking, goals 
actually do improve performance. 

Besides, it's not like it'd be that hard to do. I assume that notification 
of donations comes to a central address somewhere. If that's the case, 
setting up a script to check that mailbox and update a database (or, heck, a 
simple text file with a total) should be simple, right? Heck, if privacy 
issues can be appropriately accounted for (and I have no idea what those 
are, since I know nothing about the info that flows in with a donation), I'd 
be happy to maintain this myself. It'd be the least I can do, since my 
personal economics limit me to buying one CD per release and the occasional 
minor (<$50) donation. 

Anyone on the project team, if you think this might be a good idea, please 
contact me off-list so we can discuss feasibility.
