Another options:
Remove some of RAM to may get better battery life.
Or use mfs more.
Be more aggressive about blanking out of screen
(LCD uses about 70% of battery power while on)
Check out atactl (if this works at MACPPC???)
there is some power saving
Remove unnessary/unsupported devices if possible.
(I removed my win-modem at my laptop)
