The reason I recomended fixing it is because one doesn't always get to
plan when they need to move the drive to another computer (i.e., the
box fails).

I argue that it is better to deal with things like this when you can
schedule the downtime rather than in an emergency or other "event".

The point isn't to get it working, but to keep it reliable and
maintainable.  It is the "or something like that"s that scare me. 8)

However, if it is a non-critical system, or already scheduled for
rebuild, or... or... or... sure, leave it..  Just remember, it is a
little "different".
