That's true the sound on FreeBSD 5.1 is crappy but I thought
that would be me failing to configure it properly.

I didn't want to fry my mainboard with PC live ;-)
so I've bought a cmpci-card for 20 Euro and it works too:
cmpci0 at pci0 dev 14 function 0 "C-Media Electronics CMI8738/C3DX Audio" rev 0x10: irq 7
