Just as an aside, how long do you think it will take before the average
desktop machine is 64-bit?

Judging by commercials on TV and junkmail flyers, the average PC being
sold today has only 64MB (though about 1/3rd are listed with 128),
which means the average desktop probably has only 32MB. With Moore's
law and it's doubling & redoubluing it will take about 10-12 years by
my guesstimate before we hit 4GB.

I'd also hazard a guess that most people using "alternative" OSes like
*BSD or linux on their desktop machine tend somewhat towards
geekishness and have more powerful machines than average. (We're
probably also more likely to have multiple machines on a LAN, too.)
Would you think that in 5-6 years most people like us would have 64-bit
machines on their home IPv6 intranet?

Of course I'm afraid. Do you think I'm reluctant because I'm happy?
