Problems with 3.4

I have a 486 with 16MB RAM and an Adaptec 1542CF (firmware C.0) that
previously ran OpenBSD2.5 through 2.7 (or 2.9 ?) with the same kit
and no problem.

The other week I tried installing 4.3, got some "interrupt 7", and
random hangs during the install, mainly the newfs bit.

I've just given 4.4 a try. On my first attempt no problem until the
making device nodes bit. About a minute of nothingness, then "aha0:
host_stat 12" then filesystem full on / (the 1.5MB ramdisk ?).

On my second attempt I did the same but missed out a couple of sets.
This time it got through to installing the boot loaded then dropped
me back at a #. As the boot loader installation looked ok I rebooted.
Because I have FreeBSD (4.9RC1) on my IDEs I had to hit F5 twice to
invoke the OpenBSD boot loader. The kernel loaded and panic:
aha_init: could not allocate mailbox". Memory wise early on it says
16176K real mem and 9320K avail.

trace and ps show only the swapper and (no surprise) panic and
aha_init on the stack.

Am I just a bit tight for memory and this configuration ?

Cheers,

Jon
