How does your your setup look like? You said, you used the examples. Can I 
assume that you are using the same IP adress ranges?

Are you trying to ping from one vpn gw to the other? If so, you probably 
should adjust your pf.conf to let icmp echo requests / replies pass, because 
those packets don't travel through the tunnel.
