1) go to ebay.
2) Buy the cheapest PC you can find, >386, >16mb ram, >100mb disk.

I saw *two* Compaq SFF 450mhz P3s, sans disk, but with builtin NIC
for £10.50. That's £5 each - around $7.50usd !

Getting 386/486/P1 is pretty pointless now - you could pay 20% more
and get 3 times the performance.  Also if you need to upgrade it,
8mb of EDO memory costs the same as 128mb of SDRAM....
