This is a follow-up.
I tried booting having disabled pcibios (thanks to davids@idiom.com)
and it worked. The network (nic) now starts without problem.
But another problem come up as a result of the disabled pcibios
option: the pcmcia modem (the one you see in the dmesg before disabling
pcibios) is not detected (probed?) any more. It' a modem I have been
using with linux without problems. I know it's an ns16550a not an
ns16450, and what does "no fifo" mean?
How can I set it up in openbsd (3.4 relase)?

PS: And another question please:
How can I turn down the volume level of the system bell, cause it sounds
at its maximum, either in X or in console.
