perl errors at boot up (vi.recover)

can anyone tell me where to find out what were the perl 5.8.0 config
options/settings that caused these directories to be the contents of
@INC in OpenBSD 3.4?

# perl -wle 'print "@INC"'
/usr/libdata/perl5
/usr/libdata/perl5/i386-openbsd/5.8.0
/usr/libdata/perl5/site_perl
/usr/libdata/perl5/site_perl/i386-openbsd
/usr/local/lib/perl5/site_perl
/usr/local/libdata/perl5
/usr/local/libdata/perl5/i386-openbsd/5.8.0
/usr/local/libdata/perl5/site_perl
/usr/local/libdata/perl5/site_perl/i386-openbsd

the lack of this information (in a new build of perl-5.8.3) is now
causing vi.recover (launched from /etc/rc) to generate an error at boot
up ('cause the default perl build doesn't have the same include path as
the OpenBSD config, and I don't know how to get it to do so).

Any help greatly appreciated.
