A little elementary knowledge of electronics will tell you that as long 
as the VOLTAGE of the power supply is constant at the right value, no 
damage will occur. Problems happen when the current _limit_ is hit and 
the voltage has to drop to stop the current rising any more. So if you 
try to take 1.4A from a 1.2A supply, the voltage will have to drop by 
some amount. Get a bigger power supply, it can't do any harm :)
