CUPS is big. CUPS is somewhat hard to setup.
No-one we trust enough has had time to look at it,
evaluate the risks, and come up with a policy
to integrate it.
Yes, there is a port floating around, which we will
probably look at at some point in the not so-distant
future. It certainly is on my list of stuff to-do at
some point---every compile of KDE I do reminds me of it,
plus it is obvious all linux distributions are going en masse
to CUPS, so being able to support the same printers on heterogenous
networks is a plus (assuming you have some reasons to have some linux
on your network...)
But, hey, days are 24 hours long, and CUPS has a lot of security
implications.
