Installing SMC9452TX gigabit ethernet

I'm trying to install an SMC9452TX Gigabit adaptor
into a 3.4 system 
(i386). The card works and is recognized by FreeBSD,
which automatically 
uses the SysKonnect driver.

The card is on supported hardware list. I've searched
for reports of 
problems like this, but have found none in the
archives or on google.

Any suggestions for how to make it work. The system
itself is running 
just fine and sees the builtin Intel 100 card (fxp0).
Just reports 
unidentified device in PCI 2.
