ppp issues
Hi all,
Well, my ppp is now working after a fashion. It does on
demand dial up and gets the routes and DNS. I still need to
figure out the re-dial for no dial tone and other error handling.
I have to admit the main source of my problem was definitely
newbie stuff. I was in ppp interactive mode for debugging
and thanks to a reference in the FreeBSD handbook was
using ^Z to get to the command line. This was not
backgrounding as I was expecting, but suspending the ppp
process...so it would appear that things like ping and telnet
weren't working. Hopefully, this email will end up in the
archive and prevent someone from making the same
mistake. Thanks go to Alexander Farber for his patience.
Now, I have ppp "nat enable yes" and ip forwarding enabled.
But other PC's on my net can't see the DNS or ping an ip on
the web. At this point I'm trying to get out from a PC runing
WindozeXP and have set it's gateway to the internal ip of the
box running ppp and set it's dns pri & Sec. to those specified
by the isp (same setting as on the ppp box in resolv.conf).
This PC can get to the ppp box just fine, ping, etc.
What have I missed?
Thanks,
Mac
