I've been using a Prism II 1.5.6 PCI-only card in HostAP for a couple of 
months.  The only problems I see are occasional dropouts (clients see "You 
are now connected to <accesspoint>" messages) but no connections ever drop. 
Slightly annoying, but livable.

I had a Netgear MA311 card (Prism 2.5) that would fall over under load.  (I 
think the technical term was "the chip would go out to lunch", check the 
archives.)  That was under firmware 1.3.6, with 1.4.9 I think the clients 
would associate but never communicate and 1.7.4 the signal would go up and 
down.  I'm loath to put the card back into an OpenBSD machine...
