Network

I can plug my laptop's ethernet card in to my DSL modem, and it is detected. The dmesgsays I have xl0 at pci0 dev 16 function 0 "3Com 3c556 100Base-TX" rev 0x10: irq 11 address 00:04:76:42:21:06.
I am not sure how to properly configure this using ifconfig. I did not set up the network when I did my install.
What commands would I have to use in ifconfig in order to get the lynx of Konquerer web browsers to work?
