Yes but obviously Bram *you* don't understand.
If "miscellaneous" is the umbrella topic for this mailing list then your
definition opens it up to postings on every subject under the sun,
starting with PHP & MySQL, moving onto Linux and eventually such
"diverse subjects" as college football and basket-weaving.
"Miscellaneous" does *not* mean this list is a medium for any topic you
might wish to discuss. My point was that misc@ was not appropriate for
discussing how to set up 3rd party packages simply because the target
platform is OpenBSD.
I don't want to discourage people from helping others setup OpenBSD
systems, only that we had a thread running, mere days ago, about
gathering just this sort of information together. A simple scan of the
list archives would have been well worthwhile and the unofficial pdf
could have been submitted to the site that was setup to accept such docs.
The core of my (admittedly bad-tempered) complaint was that some recent
posters are:
1) not reading the mailing list/checking the archives first; and
2) not reading the docs/FAQs.
I don't believe either of these steps is unreasonable.
I've now wasted far too much of everyone else's time (for which I
apologise) so I'll go back to lurking.
