Come o,n I replied to your question if adduser(8) should add an entry to
/etc/group for a primary group membership:
"No, there is no problem. This would violate long standing behavior. I
repeat: this is not a bug."
I have been wrong in my explanation about su(1), confusing it in my mind
with sudo(1), I'm sorry about that. But this has been corrected already.
But again: primary group membership is not listed in /ect/group. su(1) is
odd one out with respect to this. All these facts are documented.
