haven't had that happen to me. using horde-2.2.5, imp-3.2.5
and php4-4.3.9 and also php4-4.3.10p1 ( machine used to have 4.3.9,
worked fine, now has 4.3.10p1 ).
maybe my issue is i am using a different horde version?

when you say "latest" version, does that mean the horde in -current
ports tree (2.2.5), or the most recent release on the horde.org
site (3.0.3), or the HEAD branch from horde.org's CVS? ditto for
IMP.

i had a difficult hell of a time getting horde initially all set
up and configured right; but i eventually found my trouble was
not that horde sucked, but that my understanding of it sucked.
once i figured out how it jived and i started to conform to that,
it went smoothly.
if apache is dying like that, on the surface i'd think to
reinstall the php4 port, and then maybe make sure there's
nothing awry with the temp dir that horde is told to use,
but my experience with them both is limited.
