I don't agree. When I installed OpenBSD, I didn't have to 'make OpenBSD'
:), it came in binary form. I have since installed 20+ packages to get the
level of functionality that I was used to with BSDI.
With a binary distribution (in addition to source patches, etc. available
separately), it would be great to be able to install OpenBSD, and then FTP
a 'contrib' binary package, and bingo! You're up and running.
I don't think its a test of someone's ability if they can type 'make',
'make install', or 'configure'... I think it's a matter of support and
making it easier to get going.
Since OpenBSD isn't shipped in source only, and I understand that sticking
these binaries into the standard distribution might be asking a bit much,
but to have a 'binary tarball' of the contrib files, would be worth ftp'ing
to save the hours it takes to individually retrieve, make, retrieve, make,
etc.. each package.
btw, is there an award given out to the sysadmin who compiles the most
packages? 8^)
