Acer 24x ATAPI CDROM not found

I have a system with two hard drives on the first IDE chain (the
second hopefully to be dedicated to OpenBSD) , and an Acer 24x CDROM
as master on the second. I am trying to install OpenBSD 2.2 from the
CDROM on a Pentium 75 system. Booting from the install floppy and
running install pauses for a while at ATAPIBUS1, presumably looking
for the CDROM, and does not find it. I have read the bootconfig 
doc, but it was not helpful in this case. The CDROM works fine from 
Win95.

Is this a problem with the Acer CDROM ? I can return the Acer 
and switch to a 24x Panasonic - has anyone had better luck with this 
model ?
