I have a 2.4 CD Rom that I brought home... I had a 2.3 install here,
and I used the 2.4 disk and chose the 'upgrade' option. Went fairly
easy, although it wouldn't boot from HD right afterward, hung up when
it said 'starting ipmon'.
Okay, anyway, the funniest thing is now happening... I didn't chose to
install the XFree stuff, I think it's version 3.3, since the one I have
runs just fine, and I'd heard someone here say that they'd had a
problem with 3.3. So now my WM works just fine, I'm there now, with my
old setup prior to upgrading the OS, _except_ Navigator. When I tried
to run Navigator from the WM menu (icewm) nothing happened. I brought
up an xterm and tried to run it, and error message says 'cannot run
binary file'. After that, I have to reboot, since after unsuccessfully
running Navigator, now anything I type in an xterm is garbage, i.e., I
hit 'enter', and a '=' appears, most keys don't make anything appear,
stuff like that.
So I thinks, "hey, a couple of times after the computer hung after
upgrade, I had to run fsck from floppy, maybe Navigator is now fu." So
I install Navigator from scratch, and the same thing happens.
Everything else on the computer runs just fine. XFree runs fine, all
the rest of X programs & utils run just fine, just Navigator screws up.
I tried different WM (blackbox) and still did same thing. I even tried
installing to a directory in /home which is a different parition, still
the same.
Maybe anyone has had this happen? I'm really confused here about what
might be up with this.
