You can look at http://www.openbsd.org to start for OpenBSD or
http://www.freebsd.org for FreeBSD. OpenBSD is a newer variant
of NetBSD which focuses mainly on security and cryptography.
FreeBSD supports more hardware variations and I believe it also
has multithreading support. OpenBSD is still working on the multithreading
support.
Also check out the afterboot man page once you've installed. It's very
useful as a quick setup guide once you have the system up and running.
