I ran into this (with my roommate's HP 710C) , then I discovered the pbm2ppa driver.

Compiled without a hitch under OpenBSD. Works like a charm. Install according to the readme. If you add the enscript package, you can do stratght ascii prints as well...

Might be worth a port if anyone has the time. I'm snowed under at the mo...
