Gonna toss in my unsolicited $.02 as well. :)

I like package management as well.  I'm particularly fond of the BSD ports
system.  It's like SRPMs with the exception that many people are not kind
enough to make SRPMs.

The advantage, as has been stated, is the dependency bit.  I also like the
fact that I can be pretty sure that it will compile on my system whereas
with a plain old tarball, autoconf may screw up, or I may screw up, or I
might have to track down patches.
