Re: Easy Installs
Sigh... (time to put my head on the chopping block so you can all kick it
'round a bit.)
I prefer to think of operating systems as tools, instead of thinking of
them as products. Products are meant to be marketed, tools are meant to
be used. There are always things that can be done to make tools easier,
more managable, safer. We should always consider the cost/benefit ratio
when making such changes. Should we also consider the Marketing Impact?
Perhaps as an afterthought.
As long as the utility of the product is the guiding ideal, I think we'll
do alright.
By the way, has anyone here tried to sys-admin a nice, easy-to use Windows
box? I mean *really* sys-admin the thing? It's not so pretty once you
remove the greasepaint.

Yep.

An OS should be functional. It should do the job it was meant to do. It
should not be expected to excel in other areas.

I know people who "administrate" W/95 boxes by purchasing a new one when
the filesystem gets hosed or the drive fills up. I am *not* kidding.
...okay, 'nuf. I've opened my (virtual) mouth and probably stirred up
enough trouble already.
