xlock on 2.5

I recently got a new hard drive, so I thought I would put xfree86 on my
OpenBSD 2.5 box at home. I untarred all of the X binary packages off the
cdrom (ie xbase, xfont, etc), did the basic setup, suid' Xwrapper, and
managed to fire up X pretty OK. However, when I do an xlock, neither my
user password nor my root password will unlock the system (I tried
explicitly stating -allowroot to xlock). The username that xlock seems to
be expecting is correct. I have also tried stuffing a password into
.xlockrc file, but that also did not work (I encrypted it beforehand with
"encrypt"). I've searched the ML archives, but haven't seen this problem
mentioned, sorry if its a FAQ
