(2.8) build ports: ld dumps core

Hi,

Recently I have upgraded my system from 2.7 to 2.8. The ports collection,
which I find very useful, seemed to have some problems while building some
ports. (e.g., ORBit 0.5.3)

Description:
/usr/ports is on a different partition of 3GB size. When building a
problematic port, the filesystem on that partition gets full. Then I look at
the work folder and see that there is a file "ld.core" of ~2.8GB size.

I am sure that all packages that ship with 2.8 distro are installed.
I regularly update the ports.
