I think we need to handle this puppy-like.
In this specific case, the puppy is called libtool, and so we would
really need to grab the puppy's nose and rub it in `bad doggie, bad
doggie'. 

I'm really sick of all this magnificent architecture that is supposed to
make it easier to develop portable shared libraries and ends up making
it harder.
