This is currently expected. Our linker has some bugs which make it use an
insane amount of memory to link kdelibs (over 800MB).

There is a fix for this bug, but it hasn't been tested properly yet, and 
will probably make the tree post 3.1.

In the meantime, either use binary packages, or arrange to have enough
memory and swap... (see vndconfig and swapctl).
