I don't know. I'm waiting for a solution to come up that I like.
Adding an 's' prefix to the version from the port isn't pretty but
I can live with it.

Certainly not. MESSAGE is for the admin who installs the port/package.
The users never see it.

No, it's at 1.11a21, 'a' for alpha. Joerg Schilling's development
sequence is alpha, beta, release.
