Re: devel/jdk status?

Using Nikolay's workaround (6.2 libs together with the 8.0 libs) 1.3-linux
works fine. With his workaround jakarta-tomcat works fine for me.

I suspect that 1.3-linux with the 8.0 libs is not randomly broken. I think
its more likely that there is a machine dependent linux emulation problem
that is being exposed by this combination. I may be jumping to conclusions,
but there seems to be enough anecdotal evidence to support this.

1) It works for some people and no one who has reported that it works for
them have later said it stopped working for them.

2) It doesn't work for others and no one who has reported this it failed for
them have later said it started working for them.

My particular case is slightly different but still falls into case 2. After
the second i386 flag day, linux emulation was completely broken for me using
either the 6 libs, the 8 libs or Nicolay's workaround. After installing
snapshots daily though May 5-9, I gave up for a while. Recently installed
the May 17 snap and I'm back where I started from (1.3 fails with 8 libs,
works with 6 libs and Nicolay's workaround).

I've gone as far as I am able to. Maybe someone more knowledgeable can make
sense of this... here's the tail of the ktrace of 'ktrace -di java -version'
with the 8.0 libs:
