the text part of the mail is plain text and I guess things like
autoformat, justify and such doesn't work well with trailing whitespace.
if you need to send binary content, why not just attach a file?

having said that, the question is: will anyone miss this feature and do we
want to diverge? perhaps the pine people could be convinced to make
whitespace stripping an option?
