Information for gzip-1.2.4a:
Comment:
original gnu zip archiver
Description:
gzip - Compresses and decompresses files A compression utility designed
to replace 'compress'. Much better compression and freedom from patented
algorithms are its main advantages over compress. Gzip decompresses
files created by gzip, compress, or pack; it detects the input format
automatically.

The reason for this port is because gnu-gzip doesn't need /dev/stdin to
function, which makes it much easier to implement in the /var/www
chroot. ie you don't have to make a device and change /etc/fstab
