would an update to math/R be accepted? i've found some patches on the
R lists that seem to make R work, at least on the i386-current machines
i have.

it has been suggested that configure should not be patched, rather,
configure.ac should be patched and configure be regenerated. i'm
sure they'll fix it in R-1.7.2, and since the ports tree is a nice
collection of patches and makefiles... i'd just as soon just patch
configure and be done with it.

there is a suggestion that there may be a problem with the ieee math
library on alphas for which there is another workaround that i am
unable to test.

if anyone actually cares (besides me) i'll happily roll up a port update.

GDB has a 'break' feature; why doesn't it have 'fix' too?
