Is it possible to be too newbie to make a port?

If so, where can I go (beyond reading the openbsd 'checklist of porting
infomation') to find out more info? Perhaps a n00b's guide to makefile
somewhere?

I am going to attempt to make a port of an application called gnokii. A
useful tool for communicating with a mobile phone connected to the OBSD host
through any of various means (serial cable, bluetooth, et. al.) I expect
that this will be fairly simple to convert, the maintainer's package now
compiles fairly painlessly on an openbsd host.

My first query about doing this is regarding something that I fear may be a
complication. To compile this it requires gmake, not make. How can I
specify this within a port?

I have a desire to contribute beyond purchasing CDs and a shirt each
release, as I am beginning to use the OS more and more.

Regards,

Nemir
