Using mod_ruby

I'd like to use mod_ruby with Apache but understand it is not
in the ports.  I see from the mailing list it was unstable in
2001.  Can mod_ruby be safely installed even though it is not
in the ports?  Would the inclusion of mod_ruby open up any
risks?
