i'm running FXTV 1.02 on OpenBSD 2.8 with a bt848 and it is as stable as
it can be, no hangs, and fullscreen DGA mode works fine (better quality than
TV might i add).  i would suspect the hangs are caused by 0.48.

there are only few easy code changes required (eg. headers).
grab http://hail-eris.com/fxtv.tar.gz and untar it in /usr/X11R6.

i'll make a real port if noone else does one..

btw i've even successfully captured images for mpeg encoding, the
bundled script doesn't seem to work for me though.  if interested,
