Subject: SIOCSIFMEDIA device not configured with 3c905bFX card
Hello...
I have configured 2.9 with three nic's and all seems well at boot. When the
system boots, it recognizes all the cards (2 - intel pro/100s) and a 3c905b
Fiber card. The Dmesg reports 100baseFX port, full-duplex on the fibre card
and the IRQ's are 10, 11 and 12 respectfully. Except when the netstart
command is reached. I receive the message SIOCSIFMEDIA device not
configured error when trying the following out of my hostname.xl0 file:
/etc/hostname.xl0
inet 129.xxx.xxx.1 255.255.255.0 media 100baseFX mediaopt full-duplex
If I try a command line ifconfig -m xl0:
# ifconfig -m xl0
xl0: flags=8843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500
media: Ethernet 100baseFX (10baseT half-duplex)
supported media:
media 100baseFX
inet 129.xxx.xxx.1 netmask 0xffff0000 broadcast 129.128.255.255
inet6 fe80::250:daff:fec7:40ed%x
Can you explain the "(10baseT half-duplex)" message?
when I type ifconfig -a here is what I get for xl0:
xl0: flags=8843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500
media: Ethernet 100baseFX (10baseT half-duplex)
inet 129.128.31.34 netmask 0xffff0000 broadcast 129.128.255.255
inet6 fe80::250:daff:fec7:40ed%xl0 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x3
If I try a manual ifconfig with media set to autoselect I still receive the
SIOCSIFMEDIA message. I did see in one thread somewhere regarding the PHY
device not being configured in the GENERIC kernel based on the message in
DMesg and that compiling this in would fix this. However I do not see any
error messages in the dmesg to point out what to add to the kernel.
So my questions are:
1. Is there a driver file (like Linux) that can be downloaded and updated to
2.9 for the 3c905b nic?
2. Is there something I need to add to the Kernel to enable more media
options? For the fiber connection is running fullduplex and with setting
this option manually I cannot connect to it.
3. Why the 10baseT half-duplex in the ifconfig -a on the fibre nic?
4. Am I missing something else for this problem?
5. Where can I get more details (newbie) on watchdog timeouts and what they
are?
Thank you
Greg
