What command do you type to power off your laptop? I type
"sudo shutdown -hp now" (as a regular user), and that works perfectly
for me. TiBook 550MHz. Listen for the fans, and watch the glowing
apple on the back of the lcd. My apple logo dimms (it was slightly
powered), and the white noise from my laptop goes away when I power
off.

Just tried it on my tibook, after a shutdown -hp, none of the lights work.
