unfortunately, that brought the notebook to a state, where only
detaching the power-cable and removing the accu helped to get it on
again. :-(
But thank you for your answer, it brought me to "man apm" and a few
answers to my question.
Perhaps another question: is it possible to use the thinkpad's shortcut
keys (Fn and F12 or Fn and F4) to suspend the machine?
