Re: 3c905 woes
The problem with 3c905 and tcpdump has been reported to me before but I
haven't looked at it. This may eventually become a problem for us, as our
"packet vault" (machine that captures and permanently stores every packet on
the net for intrusion detection purposes) has a 3c905. But I'll probably
just buy it a de500 instead.
You shouldn't be having that kind of performance problem. I get better than
80% of the wire speed between pairs of machines equipped with 3c905. I
wonder if it has anything to do with having two adaptors on the same
machine.
There are other problems as well. Your machine can hang if you have the
wrong media type selected at boot time. This driver didn't work at all for
3c905, and I put in a quick fix just before 2.2 went out the door. It
really needs someone to fix it up right (I'm too busy with pcmcia right
now).
