I don't know, it was just a guess. :) Mail Todd Miller and see what he has
to say about your patch and let me know!

It may be perfectly fine, it's just my experience that hacks to the system
as such usually take much more than a few modifications, and I believe it
was Todd who said you could "mail the user back and tell them it would
take a year to complete".
